Cassim Suliman the CEO of ACA and RDM for ICC in Africa talks about the evolution of cricket in africa.
Cricket in Kenya is growing in stature following the east African's nation's recent back to back victories over established cricket nations Denmark and Scotland. Considered, one of the strongest of the associate member nations of the International Cricket Council (ICC), Kenyan Cricket Authorities are working hard to reach benchmark set by South Africa in cricket. Head of Africa for the ICC Mr Cassim Suliman explains.....
Kenya currently has One day International (ODI) status until 2013; they failed to qualify for the T20 tournament. However, given a quality succession plan, pundit reckon Kenya stand a good chance of qualifying for the Cricket World Cup in New Zealand 2014.
Asked about Kenya's 15th ranked Cricket nation in the world, Suliman had this to say.
Kenya's remarkable progress in the world of cricket is seen as a motivation for the rest of the continent to follow suit. And with Cricket regarded as minority sport in Africa, and against the backdrop of youth unemployment, it is envisaged that the spread of cricket in Africa will go a long way in helping not just in creating meaningful employment but also help to entrench discipline among the youth.
On the development of cricket in Africa, Suliman emphasized ICC's strategy for the youth moving forward as comprehensive.
